Elementary

Entry for Trifecta's weekend challenge.  This week, they are paying homage to the forty-third anniversary of the first moon walk, and asking for exactly 33 words about someone who took a giant leap:

Dusty yard, hot afternoon.
Flies and cicadas buzzing, birds singing.
The dog lies in the dirt, head down,
tongue lolling out of his mouth.
Quickly, the brown fox jumps.
Lazy dog doesn’t move.

  3. Ahaha! Now we know the story behind the quick brown fox who jumps over the lazy dog. I used to type that over and over for fun. I just loved the feel of the pattern under my fingers.

  4. I don't blame the dog...I can relate to it being too hot to care :)

I had forgotten about that sentence in typing class (now memories of getting scolded for looking at my hands are coming back to me. Ack!)

  5. Thanks for reading, everyone. For some reason, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the challenge. I don't know if anyone has read "Ella Minnow Pea" by Mark Dunn, but it's a great epistlolary fable that uses the sentence as a theme in the story.

  6. This is good. Very, very good. I like how you took the typing exercise and made a story. I certainly identify with the dog. I've been so hot at times I couldn't think, much less move.

  8. Ha! Great, clever response to the prompt. I like your explanation of how it was the first thing that came to your mind. Sign of a true writer, I suppose!! Nice work. Hope to see you back again soon.
